'The Day' - Daily Newspaper
Did you know that, as a member of The Bulwell Academy community, parents/carers and students have full free access to The Day?
What is The Day?
The Day is a daily newspaper aimed at students, covering a wide range of abilities and interests with up-to-date news. Here are just some of the resources available through 'The Day':
- Brand-new articles every day
- Different reading levels for different age groups
- Accessibility options like dyslexia-friendly text, background colour and highlighting
- Articles in French, German, Spanish, Mandarin and Arabic
- Quizzes and videos
- Article writing competitions
How to access The Day
Students can log in to The Day, both at school and from home, through the Student Portal by looking for 'The Day' on the student tiles.
Direct links will also be sent out to parents and carers throughout the academic year, allowing you to see what articles students have access to. If you have any questions about The Day or are struggling to access it using the above methods, please contact Mr Hunt at joel.hunt@bulwellacademy.org.uk
Article of the Month
Every month we select a particularly relevant article to share on our website and on screens around school. This month’s article can be found here: theday.co.uk/two-in-five-deliberately-avoid-news/ - please select the relevant reading level.
Student Voices Competition
We would also like to encourage students to take part in The Day’s Student Voices weekly competition. As part of this competition, students are invited to write an article (or film a speech) on a topic they feel passionate about. Successful entries will be published on TheDay.co.uk and entered into the Young Journalist Competition in July 2025.
Written entries must be between 250 and 500 words long. Videos should be between one and two minutes. Students should make sure their entry is factual and informative. Including statistics and research will massively increase their chances of winning!
