Bulwell Reads
In our secondary classrooms, our pupils engage in tutor time reading at least once a week with their form tutor. Each year group will read a specific text which has been chosen to complement their study, engaging our pupils in socio-political discourse. Students will all have a copy of the text which they are expected to follow using their bookmark or their eyes. Teachers model fluent and effective reading and students read sections; the reader is kept unpredictable to increase engagement.
In years 7-10, students engage in centrally planned, post-reading questions to engage in wider conversation about the themes and issues that their text presents. The resources provide key words and definitions as well as opportunities to reflect on what they have previously read at the beginning of each section.
