Amy Fuller
Vice Principal, Attendance & Safeguarding
Senior Attendance Champion

Email: amy.fuller@bulwellacademy.org.uk

I became Vice Principal for Attendance & Safeguarding in December 2022 having worked as a senior leader at The Bulwell Academy since January 2021.

Our attendance target for all students is no more than 4 missed school days in an academic year. This level of attendance will enable students to make the best possible progress and will therefore have a direct impact on their futures.

Supporting pupils and parents by working together to address any in-school barriers to attendance is the focus of the Attendance Team as a whole, along with celebrating ongoing success and rewarding students for improved attendance.

Amanda Jenkins
Attendance Improvement Manager

I joined The Bulwell Academy in January 2023 as Attendance Improvement Manager.

I work closely with students, families and agencies to help remove any barriers which may prevent a child from being able to attend school.

I have worked in education for 18 years on the pastoral side and enjoy the enormous privilege of being able to help young people to fulfil their potential by supporting them to attend school, therefore building the foundations for a positive future. I am excited to be part of an enthusiastic and supportive team at The Bulwell Academy where every child matters.

Mick Astle

I joined The Bulwell Academy as Attendance Improvement Leader in September 2018 with 14 years of previous experience in behaviour support.

You will see me out in the Bulwell community every school day engaging with parents and students.

Job satisfaction in this role comes from seeing young people excelling and having the opportunity to be happy with everything they have achieved when they leave education. I really enjoy working with students that struggle with school and going on to see them achieve the best they can, whether it is managing to attend school for one whole week or achieving their GCSE qualifications.

Dominique Fadeni
Attendance Improvement Leader

I joined Bulwell Academy as Attendance Improvement Leader in December 2024. I have worked with young adults for over 17 years as a Probation Officer.

During my career, I have witnessed how early support in the lives of young people and families can make a significant difference to their futures.

I am passionate about providing proactive support to our young people and families, helping them remove barriers to education, overcome challenges and achieve better outcomes.

Bev Mellors
Attendance Improvement Leader

beverley.mellors@bulwellacademy.org.uk

I joined the Attendance Team as Attendance Improvement Leader in December 2022. I previously worked as a Learning Support Assistant where I supported students with special needs. I have been working at the Academy and its predecessor school for the past 23 years.

One of my responsibilities is to ensure that students receive their Bulwell Bucks for 100% attendance at the end of every school week, and to reward students when they return to school after a period of absence. I am passionate about this as it is important that students attend school every day.

I am also one of the Academy’s ELSAs, which means I am qualified to support students with their emotional and social learning.

Kirsty Spencer
Attendance Improvement Leader

Email: kirsty.spencer@bulwellacademy.org.uk

I joined the Bulwell Academy in 2024, having worked in attendance for the past 3 years. The role can be challenging at times but the job satisfaction far outweighs anything. The main focus of my role is supporting students to improve their punctuality and ensuring that tutor groups are rewarded every week.

Previously, I worked as an Employment Advisor promoting work-based learning for 18–24-year-olds through Apprenticeship schemes. A Business Development role, within the same sector, saw me promoting these schemes with local businesses and building good community relationships.

Sam McCartan
Attendance Improvement Co-ordinator

Email: attendance@bulwellacademy.org.uk

I joined the Attendance Team in 2024 as the Attendance Improvement Co-Ordinator. With a background working as a mental health support worker, I bring a unique perspective to the role, having developed strong skills in supporting vulnerable individuals, building trust and addressing barriers to participation.

My experience of working in mental health has equipped me to understand the complexities that may affect attendance and behaviour, allowing me to work effectively with both students and families to create a supportive, solution-based environment.

Transitioning into the education sector, I am passionate about using my skills to improve attendance, boost student well-being and contribute to their academic success.
