No child should miss their Prom simply because of lack of financial resources. We want as many of our Year 11 to enjoy the Prom as possible without the worry of how they will afford it.
Tune in to BBC Radio Nottingham from 7am on Friday 7 June to hear Mr Smith and Year 11’s Alex, Ellie-May and Raj and parent governor Anna Sant, talk about the upcoming Prom and how the Academy has supported students and families to ensure our children can enjoy this memorable celebration as they near the end of their secondary education.
The Academy has implemented a variety of strategies to promote academic attainment through our Year 11 Success Passport. The ultimate reward for getting your passport stamped, by attending revision masterclasses throughout the year, is a fully discounted ticket to the Prom!
The Y11 Success Rewards assembly every Friday with our ‘spin the wheel’ lucky prizes has also spurred on our final year students by providing regular rewards for hard work and determination to succeed.
We have also provided families with access to Promwear gifted by local charity Sharewear Clothing Scheme, founded by local Mum Louise Cooke, to combat clothing poverty.
We have offered a discreet viewing of our ‘Prom rails’ in school plus a drop-in shop during half-term. If your Cinderella (or Prince Charming) is still in need of something to wear to the ball, please get in touch with our fairy godmother, Miss O’Sullivan! We will even provide a dry-cleaning service for our preloved promwear and taxi service to those who need it.
You can hear more about how Sharewear offers free clothes to the people of Nottingham by tuning in to Radio Nottingham on Sunday at 7pm as part of Clothing Poverty Awareness Week. If you are struggling to clothe your family, please get in touch with our Safeguarding team who can refer you to the Sharewear service.
If you need support with Promwear or any other aspect of Prom affordability, please email: theresa.osullivan@bulwellacademy.org.uk
