“Black Lives Matter” Challenge

(Added 19 June 2020)

Shown below are 4 images of the different stages of a piece of artwork of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Your challenge is to select a black icon – a real or fictional inspirational character – and create a graphic poster of your chosen person. You could also choose to include a quote in your graphics.

The four stages that you can follow to create your graphic are:

  1. Pencil drawing of the outlines
  2. Colour added (I used Pro Markers)
  3. Black lines and small white highlights added
  4. Scanned in and colours brightened/enhanced on Photoshop (or similar)

Please send your artwork to and we will share on social media, if you are happy for us to do so. You can send all 4 stages or just the final graphic.

Movie Poster Design Challenge

(Added 13 May 2020)

Take a look at the gallery below of film/TV inspired posters with Bulwell Academy as the backdrop and title (click on images to enlarge).

Can you take on the Movie Design Challenge and try to re-create one of the posters below or create something similar?

The images were all created using Photoshop but, of course, you can use any other media or hand draw your design. Please share your designs with me by email to:

‘Bulwell Academy’ logo in the style of Stranger Things

(Added 11 May 2020)

Click on the link below for a step-by-step guide to creating a ‘Bulwell Academy’ logo in the style of Stranger Things using Adobe Photoshop.

If you don’t have access to Photoshop or similar graphic design software, you can, of course, draw the logo instead.

This ties in really well with the font work we do in Graphic Design, as well as being extremely useful for Year 10 when designing the logo/font for their cafe on the Architecture & Interior course.

Next week, I will be adding some more examples of ‘Bulwell Academy’ in the style of different films / well known fonts, etc, so watch this space!
