Some of these students have never played a competitive game before, yet they made it to the finals undefeated only to lose to the reigning champions, Emmanuel School.
Year 8s played Ellis Guilford in the first-round which was a close fought game which went to extra time where we managed to advance to the finals winning 4-2.
We then played the reigning champions in our first fixture losing 5-1, but then went on to beat Bluecoat Wollaton 8-2 and then a rematch with Ellis Gilford resulting in a 10-0 win.
This is an outstanding effort by a team which was only formed two weeks before finishing 2nd in the Nottingham City Schools Basketball Championship.

The Year 8 Football team won their game 4-2 against a strong Bluecoat outfit with some great team goals on show.
The boys were utterly professional from the warm-up all the way to the final whistle.
Our Player of the Match, voted for by the team, was awarded to goalie Leo after pulling off numerous important saves to provide a comfortable lead.
Furthermore, there must be a special mention to Romario and Ryleigh who ran their socks off and scored for the team to win the game comfortably in the end.
Teacher of PE, Mr Weaver, said, “I am really proud of how the boys played as a team and set themselves up nicely with a lot of confidence ready to go again in the Year 8 Boys’ CVL Football Championship, coming in March, which will be played against other strong Nottingham school teams”.
A special mention also goes to 3 of our Year Sports Leaders – Isaac, Brandon and David – who officiated the game very well.

In January, 7 students attended an inclusive Handball tournament at Harvey Haddon Stadium. It was the first time that many of these players had experienced handball but they were fully committed.
Their enthusiasm and perseverance was shown throughout the whole tournament. All players worked incredibly hard and managed to win 4 out of 6 games.
They all represented the academy incredibly well, showing great enthusiasm, teamwork and integrity throughout. At the end of the tournament all pupils helped to pack away the equipment to help out the organisers. Well done everyone!

In February, we welcomed 84 pupils from 7 local schools to come and compete in the Years 4 & 5 Multi-Sports Festival.
The competitors battled it out in games of dodgeball and curling and a showed amazing attitudes throughout.
It was fantastic to see so many potential, future BUA students having such a wonderful time at the Academy.
This festival saw double the number of participants compared to the last festival in October which hopefully we can improve on further in our next competition in April.
We would like to give a big shout out to our year 10 and 11 Sports Leaders, who worked so hard in the weeks leading up to the festival to provide such a well organised event.
The leaders were extremely proactive and professional on the day. The were a credit to the Academy!
