The Academy is a very busy place at the moment with GCSE exams taking place, and students really focused on doing their absolute best. Other students have been involved in some great events which are detailed in the Bulwell Bulletin below, and generally there is a real buzz of purpose around the place – which is lovely to see.
The new main gate arrangement at the start and end of the day has made a significant improvement to student safety and some members of the community have been very complimentary about the improvement in our student’s behaviour especially on Squires Avenue – so again very positive. We will continue to encourage our students to behave well in and around the school and on their way to school and home. Thank you for any support you have given us in delivering those messages.
Please enjoy reading below about the great things going on at the school currently, and please also read the last 3 bullet points at the end about a few changes we have made to make further improvements to the school and to the expectations of student behaviour.
Have a great week.
Sara Wildes, Principal
Our Duke of Edinburgh programme is re-emerging from the pandemic and, I’m pleased to say, Year 11 students will be doing their Bronze Award expedition (after GCSE exams) on 29-30 June.
New DofE Year 9 recruits kicked off their training last week with The Army ‘Desert Rats’. Major Downing led sessions on Team Building and First Aid to develop their skills before their Bronze expedition on 13-14 July.
Students will learn campcraft, basic map reading skills, route planning and the Countryside code in the coming weeks.
Both expeditions will be a planned scenic walk to Robin Hood Activity Centre in Ravenshead. We look forward to sharing more photos with you later in the summer term.
That students will have such fantastic experiences is thanks to DofE Leaders, Mr Turner and Mr Watson, who have been working hard in the background to keep the award afloat during the pandemic.

Congratulations to our Fantastic Friday Superstars in each year group who all received a £10 Amazon voucher.
Sixth Form Lead, Mr Turner (pictured with Year 12 winners) said: “Not only have these students had excellent attendance and punctuality, but they are always willing to help out without any fuss. They have been exemplary in displaying the Academy’s values: Respect – Resilience – Creativity – Ambition – Kindness.”
Our next Fantastic Friday takes place on Friday 27 May.
Last week was the final of the Trust-wide Instrumental Days for the school year where players from across the Creative Education Trust schools came together to form an orchestra.
Players performed as an orchestra and also as sectionals.
Bulwell students had a great time making music and also learning from others. Any students interested in taking up an instrument should see Mr Longbottom.
Congratulations to Alex Kearns in Year 11 who has recently completed a skydive in aid of NIDAS, which supports women and families with all aspects of domestic abuse.
