It has been a busy half term – but we have made it.
My thanks to all parents who have supported their children and the Academy during what has been a challenging period for all schools.
For Year 11, they are on the final stretch of their journey with us. The Department for Education confirmed this week GCSEs will be taking place, with reassuring messages about the marking scheme and content. The second set of Year 11 Mock exams will take place between Monday 21 February and Wednesday 9 March. Students have all received a copy of the timetable.
All Year 11 updates between now and the exams can be found here:

We are determined our students are given the tools to have the best possible chance in those exams, which have not taken place over the last two years. We have put in place a raft of support and will be tracking student engagement for entry into a prize draw and reduced ticket prices for the Prom, as outlined in my letter last week.
It is important Year 11s take up the opportunities we are putting on, including revision sessions during half term next week. These will take place between 10am (arrive at Squires Avenue main gate by 9.50am) and 1pm, with Geography on Monday, Science on Tuesday, English on Wednesday, and Maths on Thursday.
Uniform is not required but please bring your own equipment. Lunch will be provided at 1pm. My thanks to the staff who are making this happen.
I am delighted we have been able to offer a free trip for Year 11s to see Macbeth at The Leeds Playhouse on Wednesday 2 March. Arguably Shakespeare’s finest play, this is fabulous preparation for their English GCSE. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to those who reserve by email to macbeth@bulwellacademy.org.uk.
A reminder that there will be a Sixth Form Parents’ Evening on Thursday 24 February, 4 to 6pm. To make this evening more time efficient for families and staff, it will be delivered remotely via 10-minute video-calls using the SchoolCloud Parents’ Evening System. To make your appointments, go to bulwellacademy.schoolcloud.co.uk.
Finally, I would just like to wish students, staff and families, an enjoyable half term. Please use it to recharge batteries ready for an important few weeks in the school calendar.
