Absence from School

General Absence

Parent/Carer Expectations

Make sure your child attends every day on time.

Call school on 9647640 (option 1) to report your child’s absence between 7.30 and 8.30 am on the day of absence (and on each subsequent day of absence), and advise school when they are expected to return.

Provide more than one emergency contact number for your child.

Ensure that, where possible, appointments for your child are made outside of the school day.

Medical Appointments

Where possible, routine doctor and dental appointments for students should be made outside school hours. If a student has an orthodontist or paediatrician appointment to attend within school hours, the Attendance Team will require evidence of the appointment, ie, a copy of the appointment letter.

Injuries / Mobility Difficulties

If your child has an injury or requires special medical assistance when they return to school, please telephone or email Amy Fuller, Vice Principal for Attendance, to discuss your child’s mobility needs: amy.fuller@bulwellacademy.org.uk. For example, if they need crutches to help them to walk, we will need to make special arrangements for them to move around the Academy. We are required to complete a risk assessment to ensure the safety of your child on site and we can only do this if you let us know in advance of their return to school.

Holidays during Term-Time

Holidays during term-time will not be authorised unless there are exceptional circumstances. Applications for absence should be made by a formal written letter to the Head of School, Mr Matt Irons.
