On 19 February 2024, the Creative Education Trust announced that the Principal, Mr Belshaw, has left The Bulwell Academy to pursue new opportunities. We are pleased to inform the Bulwell community that Mr Irons, Vice Principal for Behaviour, has been appointed as Acting Head of School.
Mr Irons joined the Academy in September 2023. He is an experienced senior leader who has previously held positions of responsibility in other Nottingham schools.
Mr Irons is now looking forward to making sure the Academy continues on its journey of improvement.
Mr Keen, Executive Principal, will continue to oversee the Academy, providing stability and a wealth of experience. Mr Keen has led 2 schools in the Trust to achieve a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating and will be working alongside Mr Irons and the Academy’s leadership team to support the Academy moving forwards.
Open Mornings at Bulwell
If parents and carers would like to meet with Mr Keen and Mr Irons, they can sign up to attend one of our Open Mornings or join them at our first Parent Forum in March.

The first Open Morning was held on 21 February. This is the first of several events at Bulwell to promote parental engagement. The Open Mornings are an opportunity for parents and carers to see the school in action and to speak with senior leaders.
You can see from the quote above that our Year 9 parent was glad she took up the opportunity, seeing students in lessons who were ‘calm and focused’, and having the chance to have her questions answered.
Mr Keen said, “It is important for parents to be able to hold us to account, and for us to keep communicating with parents. We are looking forward to the next Open Mornings and hope that more parents will take us up on the chance to see Bulwell in action!”
Bulwell’s First Parent Forum
We will be hosting our first Parent Forum on Wednesday 27 March, 4pm to 5pm, where Senior Leaders will present on key aspects of the Academy Improvement Plan followed by a chance for parents to ask questions. This will be an exciting opportunity to create a parent group to be more involved in any events taking place in the Academy or the community.
Parents and carers who are keen on being involved in the school can book their place at the Parent Forum here: forms.office.com/e/bmEPzyKk7E
As the Academy continues to improve, we recognise the role the community will play in our path to success. Parents are vital in this journey, and we welcome your support to get there.
