The Bulwell Academy will be closed to all students and staff for the day of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral on Monday 19 September. Please note the Academy is also closed on Friday 16 September as previously communicated. School photographs are to be taken on return to school on Tuesday 20 September.

National Period of Mourning
9 September 2022: Notice to Parents/Carers
You will have seen yesterday evening’s sad news that our longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II passed away at her residence in Balmoral, aged 96. After reigning for 70 years, she was the United Kingdom’s longest-serving monarch and her passing marks the end of an era.
National guidance is that schools will remain open during a period of mourning. This period of national mourning will continue until the end of the State Funeral. When schools are issued guidance regarding any arrangements for the day of the State Funeral, we will share these with you.
In the meantime, we will ensure there is appropriate opportunity for students to discuss and ask questions about the Queen’s life and reign. We will also make available support for any student for whom this significant national event causes sadness.
